Welcome to Mrs. Brakenbury's site!
Welcome to my site! If you are one of my students, you will become very comfortable with this site. Many of the things we will learn will start with coming here first. Always be ready to listen and navigate!
1. Use technology respectfully.
2. Follow instructions quickly. Raise your hand if you need more information or help.
3. Help each other when appropriate.
4. Keep your thinking caps on! Not everything online is completely true, and sometimes it isn't true at all!
5. If you wouldn't show it to Mrs. Brakenbury's grandma or the principal, don't go to the website.

What are we learning?
I am so glad you asked! We are learning a love for books and curiosity; we are becoming equipped to be good digital citizens.
We are learning how to research in a way that promotes looking at multiple sources, giving credit where it's due, and using our own words. We are learning how to use our Chromebooks effectively for presentations, collaboration, and more. We are learning how to be safe online and to be forces for good using technology.
We read books and are read to in this class. We encourage each other to find new titles and series, to try another genre, to connect to what is being learned in class, and to spend time reading for enjoyment. We listen to Mrs. Brakenbury read books in wild voices, and for other books we sometimes will almost see her cry as she reads something moving. We are excited about Accelerated Reader and our progress in it. Our librarian selects books to read aloud for many reasons, but always tells us when it is one we could take an AR quiz on and tries to make sure we have time to do it before we go.
There are standards for library class. See them here: ISLMA I-SAIL. We also have guidelines from the district we use as a baseline for instruction.
Be a good digital citizen!
