Another read aloud from a book found on the We Give Books website: http://www.wegivebooks.org/books/dk-readers-twisters/reader. Look for research hints at the end of the video!

This book begins with the story (probably made up from a combination of real stories) of Rob, a farmer, and his encounter with a twister. The story helps engage younger minds in particular and prepares them to learn the facts later in the book. The first edition of this book is from 2000 (this is the 2010 reprint), so some of the pictures do look dated. It is, however, good information for younger students. Enjoy!

Keep up with reading over the summer!

Don't let summer get in the way of great reading! If anything, let it be an opportunity to read even MORE! I spent countless hours reading outside when I was younger, and I still do. Whether it is by the pool (be careful!), on vacation, in the yard, in a tree house, under a canopy, or whatever, READ! Your brain will be glad you did!

You might be thinking, "How will I get books over the summer?" Good question. The Galesburg Public Library has summer reading programs for children and adults. Plus, you can check out as many books as you want at once! That is pretty amazing. You can even get audiobooks for those long car rides. They even have e-books you can check out--my personal favorite.

Now, what if you cannot get to the library? What if you have fines you can't pay yet? We Give Books provides free--FREE!--books to read online. They currently have over 150 books available. Many of the books are non-fiction, with selections ranging from the explorers to animals to weather. There are quite a few story books available, also, including popular Skippyjon Jones and Max and Ruby titles. There is even a summer reading program with this site to help enhance your reading! You will need to sign up to create a login for the site, but it is worth it. There is no additional cost. As an added bonus, reading books on this website helps other kids around the world get books that they would not have access to otherwise.

Have a wonderful summer and ... READ ON!
